    Separating Mixtures
    Materials:
1 cup with mixture
1 graduated cylinder
1 spoon
1 funnel
1 beaker
1 flask

1 hotplate
1 set of goggles per group member
     Procedure:
1.Pour contents of cup into graduated cylinder through funnel. Try to keep iron (the dark mush at the bottom of the cup) from going into cylinder.

2.Use magnet to pick up iron. There will be some sand stuck to the iron. Do not be afraid to touch iron with magnet.

3.Using spoon or hand, remove the beans, plastic fly, and toothpick from the funnel and put to a side.

4.Pour 3/4 of the water from the graduated cylinder into the beaker.

5.Plug in hot plate.

FUN FACT OF THE DAY: Hot plates can get hot when plugged in. Who knew?

6.Place beaker on to hot plate.

7.Wait for water to reach boiling point and allow water to evaporate.

8.Unplug hot plate

9.Hot plate is still hot. Do not touch it!

10.Remove the beaker from the hotplate. There will be salt at the bottom of the beaker. DO NOT TOUCH  THE SALT! THE SALT WILL BE HOT AFTER BEING ON THE HOT PLATE!
You now have the following items:
Some sand
Some iron shavings
Salt
2 toothpicks
1 Plastic fly
About 10 beans
1/4 of the water (3/4 was evaporated to get salt)

These are the items mixed together to get the mixture.
    Clean Up
Make sure to properly clean all tools
Wait for hot plate to cool down before putting away
Properly dispose of each part of the mixture
Put tools back into their rightful place

Congratulations! You have separated a mixture! :-)
